Pablo La Roche

Pablo La Roche is Professor of Architecture. He is also Sustainable Design Leader at CallisonRTKL. He has an Architecture and Masters of Science degree from Universidad del Zulia and a PhD in Architecture from the University of California Los Angeles. His research interests include passive cooling systems, low energy carbon neutral architecture, and affordable housing having published more than 130 papers in conferences and journals worldwide in these topics. His book “Carbon Neutral Architectural Design” (CRC Press-Taylor Francis, 2011) has been in the top five in Amazon's Energy and Buildings category and the second edition will be out in early 2017.  
 
Dr La Roche has led multiple funded research projects and in 2008 was one of the contributors to the Carbon Neutral Design Project supported by SBSE and the AIA. He has practiced as a licensed architect in Spain and Venezuela, and is Associate AIA and LEED BD+C accredited in the USA. His projects have been published and received awards in the USA, Venezuela, Mexico and Spain. His students have also won multiple awards in design competitions and conferences. He has been the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship and in 2008 he led an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students that won the NCARB Grand Prize for the Department of Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona.

Dr La Roche has served as chair and technical reviewer of numerous conference sessions and recently co chaired BESS SB13, part of the SB series of conferences and in 2016 chaired the 2016th edition of the Passive Low Energy Architecture Conference PLEA in Los Angeles California. Dr La Roche also co curated the exhibit “Technology and Environment: The Postwar House in Southern California” supported by the Getty Foundation. He is a member of the advisory board of Informes de la Construccion and is also an Associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) past president of the Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE), American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), American Solar Energy Society (ASES), Venezuelan Institute of Engineers (CIV), Venezuelan Institute of Architects (CAV).
