Dr. Pablo Arreola is Professor Emeritus of History, and a third-generation Los Angeleno. He earned his PhD in history from UCLA, specializing in Chilean, Mexican, and Cuban history. He is currently completing a book-length manuscript on the rise of Chilean state in the 1850s and popular revolt, focusing specifically on the role played by disaffected peasants, small-holders, and Mapuche Indians in the so-called “Revolution of 1859.” Dr. Arreola has traveled widely throughout Latin America and hopes to begin researching the topic of Latin American Independence and counterrevolutionary currents in Chile, Peru, Venezuela, and Mexico. While at CPP, he taught a number of courses on Latin America, specifically the Mexican Revolution and contemporary Latin America. He also taught World Civilization and the history of Modern Spain. He served as the director and advisor of the CPP Model Organization of American States program (MOAS) from 2013 to 2018. He retired in June 2018.
