Georgia Mickey (she, her) is an Associate Professor Emeritus at Cal Poly Pomona who teaches courses in Chinese, Japanese, and modern world history. She received a B.A. in Spanish Literature from Grinnell College, and an M.B.A. in Finance and Accounting, an M.A. in East Asian Studies, and a Ph.D. in East Asian History at Columbia University. Her research focused on the early years of the Bank of China, an institution founded in 1912. After completing her Ph.D. in 2004, she joined the History Department at Cal Poly in 2006. She is currently completing Year 3 of the CSU’s 5-year faculty retirement program, which ends in 2023. In addition to teaching Chinese, Japanese, and modern world history, she has taught the Department’s core courses, including Historiography, Senior Thesis, and Digital Research. Before taking her fascination with Chinese history and culture into graduate school, she pursued careers in banking, management consulting, and bookstore management, which included three years living and working in Hong Kong in ship financing.
