Dr. Vasquez is originally from Cuenca, Ecuador. Before coming to Cal Poly Pomona she had over 14 years of teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate programs in Latin America, Spain, and the United States.
She was awarded as a top faculty instructor in 2022-2023 in Communication at The University of Cuenca, where she also was the chairwoman for the Honores Vanguardia Program of Academic Excellence from 2021 to 2023.
As a researcher, in the last 6 years, she has collaborated with multidisciplinary research teams in getting 5 research grants from Ecuador, Belgium, the US Embassy in Ecuador, and Unicef for developing science communication and health communication studies and communication campaigns around nutrition, COVID-19 prevention, inclusive urban parks, and pediatric dental care.
Dr. Vasquez graduated in 2019 with a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from The University of New Mexico, where she graduated as Summa-Cum Laude. Her research interests are public relations and social media, health communication, and science communication. In 2023 she published her second book Science Communication for Public Engagement. Evolving toward Science-Society Participation, this book presents several case studies for science communication applied in research project initiatives.
