CalPERS Membership
The following information is regarding your CalPERS Membership and the options to consider.
- Retire
Leave your accumulated contributions in your account and receive a retirement benefit as soon as you meet the minimum retirement eligibility requirements.- You can log into your myCalPERS account to estimate your potential retirement benefit.
- To apply for retirement, log into your myCalPERS account. From the Retirement tab, select Apply for Retirement, and follow the steps provided.
- A retirement application must be submitted within 120 days of separating from employment to be eligible to receive retiree health benefits.

- Elect a Refund of Contributions
A refund includes your member contributions and interest as a direct deposit or rollover. Ensure you are aware of any tax implications.- A refund is irrevocable and will terminate your CalPERS membership.
- Taking a refund terminates your CalPERS membership and you forfeit your right to future benefits. This means you lose the right to receive a service or disability retirement benefit, and your beneficiaries won't be eligible for any survivor benefits from CalPERS.
- You are eligible for a refund only if you are not entering employment with another CalPERS-covered employer.
- You may not be eligible for a refund if you have established reciprocity with CalPERS and another California public retirement system.

- Leave Contributions on Account and Elect to Retire When Eligible
Leave your accumulated contributions on account until you meet the minimum retirement eligibility requirements or meet the requirements for the federal required minimum distribution of age 72.- You will continue to receive an Annual Member Statement every fall.
- You will continue to earn interest at the current annual percentage rate.
- If you are entering employment covered by a reciprocal retirement system, you may be eligible to establish reciprocity.

For questions about your options with your Fidelity (403b) or Savings Plus (457, 401k) accounts after separating from CSU, please contact the providers directly. You may be eligible to transfer or roll over your funds to another eligible retirement plan.
