Call for Cybersecurity Demonstrations

presenters from Chaffey College pose with Billy BroncoThe Cybersecurity and Awareness Fair (CSAF) would like to announce its call for hands-on cybersecurity demonstrations at this year's event on October 31, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Student Center. Hands-on cybersecurity demonstrations are intended to showcase a security issue and demonstrate how to use artificial intelligence (AI) or other cybersecurity techniques to protect themselves, mitigate risk, and learn skills that can be immediately applied. Our audience ranges from those new to security to experienced practitioners in the industry.

Demonstrations of all skill levels are welcome. However, individuals must be affiliated with an educational institution or a cybersecurity professional within the industry with valid credentials to participate. CPP and other student clubs from colleges and highschools are are encouraged to apply. The CASF committee will choose the participants based on the quality of the entries and their qualifications. Their decision is final.

  • AI security, risks, and its unintended consequences.
  • AI bais and and privacy.
  • AI tools for protecting yourself and your data.
  • Securing Browsing (Anti-fingerprint methodologies, Tor, VPN, etc.)
  • Securing users of operating systems and technologies.
  • Tools for securing and monitoring your home network.
  • General privacy and security awareness.
  • Tools for data collection and visualization.
  • Protecting yourself from data collection.
  • Tools on network sniffing, intrusion detection, monitoring, forensics.
  • Programming for security practitioners.
  • Creating a security tool kit for consumers and the average user.
  • Incident response tools and techniques for consumers.

All accepted hands-on demonstrations will be announced, recorded, and published by CSAF.

Demonstration Format

  • Each demonstration is intended to be interactive and hands-on, with the expectation to last about 15-20 minutes, followed by a short question and answer period, then repeat continuously from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Each demo can contain up to two different topics of your choosing within the field of cybersecurity.
  • You will have a simulated classroom style setup in an open hall to teach audience members about cybersecurity awareness.
  • You will be provided with table(s), surge strip(s), networking as requested, and up to four laptops.

The submission deadline is anticipated to be mid-August 2024. Outline your team's presentation today so you may submit it as soon as the form becomes available.
