Cybersecurity & Awareness Fair

Social Engineering

Cybersecurity usually involves the protection of data and computer systems — anything digital or in cyberspace — but people often neglect securing the human element as well. Instead of exploiting technical vulnerabilities, social engineering exploits human psychology to gain sensitive data or access to systems through deceptive tactics like phishing emails, pretexting, or baiting. Attackers impersonate trusted individuals or organizations and persuade victims through emotional manipulation to comply with their requests. Understanding social engineering is crucial for enhancing cybersecurity awareness and defense strategies. MISSA aims to educate students about recognizing and responding to these tactics, thereby reducing the risk of successful attacks.
