Health Insurance:

The Cal Poly Pomona health insurance is mandatory for every international student. Click here for more information.

Lodging and Personal Expenses:

Students can choose on-campus or off-campus lodging options according to their preference. Personal expenses can vary from people to people.

Textbooks, Class Supplies and Class/Lab Fees:

The expense of textbooks and class supplies will depend on the classes that you take. Some classes and lab activities will charge additional class fees.

Every Cal Poly Pomona student is automatically enrolled in the “Instant Access” program that gives you access to digital textbooks & materials. Students will pay $250 for that. If you don’t think you need that, you may opt out from that program to save the $250 but will be responsible for looking for textbooks & materials yourselves. If you decide to opt out, please do that before the semester kicks off.

Yes, you can. Cal Poly Pomona offers two types of on-campus lodging options:

Please note that eligibility requirements apply for University Village lodging applications. On-campus lodging is usually limited. Please submit your applications as early as possible and always have a plan B for other off-campus lodging options.

Semester@CPP program students must apply for the F-1 International Student visa.

Once a student is admitted, (s)he will receive an Admission Letter and a Form I-20. Students will then pay the SEVIS Fee and apply at the U.S. Embassies in his/her home country for an F-1 International Student visa.

As visa application takes time, please plan ahead as soon as you receive the documents above from Cal Poly Pomona.

Yes. International students must purchase the Cal Poly Pomona health insurance in order to enroll in classes. HERE is more information of the mandatory health insurance for international students.

JCB Insurance Solutions is the designated insurance provider. Please visit their website HERE to purchase the insurance plan, and view the plan benefits.

When purchasing the insurance plan, please select "Cal Poly Pomona" as the school name, the fiscal year that you are enrolled, and "Semester@CPP Program" as the plan name.

F-1 International students are required to enroll full-time in at least 12 credit units in each semester. And most courses at Cal Poly Pomona carry 3 units.

Please visit the Cal Poly Pomona Public Class Schedule and view what classes will be offered in the semester that you plan to study in.

Semester@CPP students will start to petition for classes a few weeks prior to the start of the semester. For Fall 2024, the classes will start on August 22, 2024, while Semester@CPP students can petition for classes 1-2 weeks prior to the first day of the semester.

Each course offered at Cal Poly Pomona is labeled with a "Subject Letter" and a 4-digit "Catalog Number". For instance, IBM3012 is the course of "Principles of Marketing Management", where IBM is the "Subject Letter", meaning the International Business Management Department, while "3012" is the "Catalog Number".

Catalog 1000~1999 (undergraduate-level): for 1st year freshmen

Catalog 2000~2999 (undergraduate-level): for 2nd year sophomores

Catalog 3000~3999 (undergraduate-level): for 3rd year juniors

Catalog 4000~4999 (undergraduate-level): for 4th year seniors

Catalog 5000~5999 (graduate-level): for 1st year graduate students

Catalog 6000~6999 (graduate-level): for 2nd year graduate students

For courses with catalogs higher than 3000, they are usually associated with pre-requisite requirements.

Step 1: Check course information via the “Public Schedule”. Please make sure to select the correct term that you will enroll.

Step 2: Check the "University Catalog" to make sure if there are any pre-requisite requirements for the courses that you plan to petition for.

Step 3: Based on the steps above, work out a wish-list that comprises 6-8 courses. Please communicate with the program staff on the wish-list.

Step 4: Course petition will begin 1-2 weeks before the semester, and you will receive a reminder email for that. To get prepared in advance, please read the "Petition Form Guideline (PDF)" to get familiar with the process.

Please note that if any petitions gets denied, you can repeat the same procedure to submit a new petition for a new course.

When filing the Petition Form, you may be asked to provide the "Recent Concurrent Enrollment/Letter of Permission from a DSO/PDSO at the School Issuing your I-20", please ignore that. Instead, please download the statement claiming that your are a Semester@CPP student HERE (PDF), complete your personal information information, and then upload it as one of the attachments in the Petition Form.

Most course petitions will be approved given that students have met the pre-requisite requirements. However, there are still a number of petitions that may get denied because the petition process is based on:

  • Class space availability
  • Instructor approval
  • Department chair approval
  • Graduate program coordinator approval (petitions for courses with catalog of 5000~6999)
  • Cal Poly Pomona graduate studies office approval (petitions for courses with catalog of 6000~6999)

Tips on getting your petitions approved:

  • Be flexible on your course choices. Business-related courses at undergraduate level are normally easier to get approved
  • Petition for courses with lower course catalog
  • Undergraduate-level courses are much easier to get approved than graduate-level ones
  • Avoid petitioning for the courses that are labeled with "Special Sessions" under the "Session" category
  • Avoid petitioning for these courses that are not open to Semester@CPP students

You may receive emails from Open University, or College of Professional and Global Education. Please note that Open University is for U.S. local students, while Semester@CPP program is for international students. No, Semester@CPP students pay less than degree-seeking international students. The average tuition for degree-seeking international students is $8,500 each semester; while the tuition for Semester@CPP students is $5,900.

Tuition for degree-seeking students includes the fees of Bronco Student ID Card, the use of the campus fitness center - BRIC, and others, which are not structured in the tuition for Semester@CPP students.

However, Semester@CPP students will be able to pay an additional fee for these services. For instance:

Please click HERE for more information about Cal Poly Pomona Immunization/Vaccination Requirements and upload your records.

Semester@CPP students will be eligible to work part-time on-campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week. Students can find campus job postings on the Career Center's Handshake website. After receiving a job offer, students need to apply for a U.S. Social Security Number before they can start to work on campus.

As the Semester@CPP program is a non-degree program, students are not eligible for CPT or OPT. They are not allowed to work off campus, either. Working off-campus will result in an immediate termination of their Form I-20.
