Technology and Operations Management
Interview with Jean Minasian
April 2021
Hi! I’m Jean Minasian a senior and the current President of Operations Management Society. I transferred from Glendale Community College majoring in business administration, with an emphasis in supply chain management. After graduating this semester, I’ll be taking a short vacation up north to the bay area and start apartment scouting and all the while I’ll be exploring new trails, beaches, restaurants, and any hole-in-the-wall I can come across. I’ll be joining Lockheed Martin Space as a subcontracts administrator for my first real job after graduation. The curriculum courses I’ve taken in the supply chain track is really going to help me with this position – especially Purchasing Management (shout-out to Dr. Guyse and his wonderful lectures)! I want a position in either strategic supply chain development or strategic purchasing. I plan to tackle big picture problems and issues companies face when it comes to the dependability, sustainability, and profitability of their supply chains. I’m very interested in work involving Space-flight! Last summer I had an internship with Amazon as an Area Manager Intern at one of their Amazon Robotics fulfillment center in Eastvale, CA. The first part of my internship was completely virtual where we explored Amazon’s culture, its mission, and core values that has driven the e-commerce company to the forefront of technological and retail innovation. The second part of my internship took place in-person at an Amazon fulfillment site where I shadowed an Area Manager in the packing department. During that time I was exposed to Amazon’s operations, processes, equipment, and culture in action. Overall my experience was great, I got to apply a lot of the concepts I learned from school throughout my internship. My advice is to never stop learning! Once you’ve obtained that knowledge, leverage it to whatever goals or aspirations you have. I recommend joining clubs, participating in research projects, and networking. You’ll meet a lot of new people this way and gain a lot of insights and opportunities that may have been closed off to you before. As a transfer student, it was difficult at first to break into the mold of a new university, but with the friends I made and the opportunity to learn, and participate in events I began to open more paths of opportunities I could take.
