Interview with Cherrie Peters
September 2021
Cherrie Peters Career Counselor and Liaison to College of Business. I have much knowledge and experience working with recruiters from all industries and students from all majors. I utilize the extensive knowledge to help students discover what they hope to pursue as a student and upon graduation. I provide daily assistance to employers, students, and alumni and am always eager to help.
It is great to meet with students throughout the journey here at Cal Poly Pomona. It's a great idea to visit the center, schedule an appointment, and revisit your resume at least 1 time a semester. We have a multitude of events and workshops and staying informed will provide you with great resources and options during your time as a student.
Primary FAQs include the following:
What can I do with my major?
I have not interviewed before, can you help me prepare?
What do I say at a career fair when I meet an employer?
Would you review my resume?
These questions are great from students because I know they are preparing for future opportunities. All are a starting point and no matter whether a first year or senior, getting guidance and answers will strengthen and prepare them.
Advice
There are many websites which provide industry information but as a student, I believe it is very important to become aware of the language used in the industry, journal what you have learned, and keep track of academic projects. If you work, keep records of work responsibilities and promotions. All of this will help to develop your resume, your commercial, and provide solid answers to interview questions. The career center has multiple resources including the Career Guide, Big Interview, Goinglobal, and Handshake. If you have specific questions, schedule an appointment with me through CPP Connect. I also host Business Drop In's on Tuesdays 1p-4p and Wednesdays 2p-4p(in person or virtual). Connect with me on LinkedIn or email me if you have questions. crpeters@cpp.edu I wish you continued success at Cal Poly Pomona!
