How To Use the QLT Template

About the QLT Canvas Course Template

The QLT Canvas Course Template is designed to help you meet objectives of the Quality Learning and Training (QLT) evaluation rubric developed by the CSU. It includes a Start Here Module to introduce students to your course and 16 Modules that can be customized to fit your course content and schedule (e.g., weekly, topical, chapter-based, etc.).

[Brackets] are used to indicate content that needs customization. Be sure to delete the brackets when you update text.

Introductory Elements

  1. Home Page: Choose between our Basic Course Home Page and Advanced Course Home Page as described on the [Course Home Page] Choose Basic or Advanced Page. 
  2. Syllabus: Edit the Syllabus Page to include your course syllabus. The Course Schedule shown on the Syllabus page will automatically update based on the due dates for Canvas Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions.
  3. Start Here Module: Update each item within the Start Here Module as appropriate for your course.

Instructional Content

  1. Choose which of the pre-installed QLT Canvas Course Template elements you wish to keep in the Modules and customize them accordingly. In addition to accessing items from the Modules page, you can use the Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes links in the course navigation menu to view other course elements.
  2. Make sure instructional content is added to the appropriate Module and properly published for students to access. Remember: both the item (Page, Assignment, Quiz, Discussion, etc.) and the Module in which it is located must be published or the student

  1. View your course's Accessibility Report and fix any Severe or Major issues found in your instructional content.
  2. Use the Validate Links in Content tool to locate and fix broken links.
  3. Test your course from a student's perspective using the Student View feature.
Remember, students will not be able to access the course at all until the course is Published.
