Savita and Manilal Mehta Public Lecture Building Global Peace in the Nuclear Age

Dr. Krieger will share his experiences that led him to make a life-long commitment to work toward a more peaceful world. His experiences included early visits to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Peace Memorial Museums, fighting against US involvement in the Vietnam war as a young army officer, and participating in Robert Hutchins’ Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions. He will present the case to eliminate nuclear weapons before they eliminate us, and talk about what each of us can do to help prevent future Hiroshimas and Nagasakis. He will also share some of his poems from his latest and forthcoming books.

David Krieger

David Krieger is the founder of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, and has served as President of the Foundation since 1982. Under his leadership the Foundation has initiated many innovative and important projects for building peace, strengthening international law and abolishing nuclear weapons.

Dr. Krieger has received many honors and awards such as the ECOMIR Peace and Environmental Prize of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (2006); Global Green’s Millennium Award for International Environmental Leadership (2005); Peace Writing Award of the Peace and Justice Studies Association and OMNI Center for Peace, Justice and Ecology (2005); the Peace Educator of the Year Award of the Consortium of Peace Research, Education and Development (2001); the Soka Gakkai Hiroshima Peace Award (2000); the Soka Gakkai International Peace and Culture Award (1997); and the Bronze Medal of the Hungarian Engineers for Peace (1995).
