Service as Leadership

Date: November 21, 2009
Time: 2:30pm to 5:00pm
Location: Cal Poly Pomona, Bronco Student Center, Ursa Major
In sharing her perspective on service as leadership, Roopal Shah will draw upon her ten-year experience as the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Indicorps, a non-profit organization. Indicorps strives to provide transformational service experiences to its volunteering fellows, encouraging them to engage their body, mind, and soul in leading change by example. Ms. Shah will discuss concrete ways in which  young people can be challenged and inspired to take ownership of BIG questions, and to find answers by living their values.

Roopal Shah

Roopal Shah currently serves as the Executive Director of Indicorps (which she co-founded with her siblings Anand and Sonal) and is based in Ahmedabad, India. A graduate of Harvard University and the University of Michigan Law School, she practiced law for almost a decade—clerking for a federal district judge in Hawaii, practicing at a law firm in Washington, DC, and serving in San Diego for four years as a federal prosecutor (of major narcotics and alien-smuggling along the Southwest US-Mexico border). At Indicorps, she has been closely involved with all 10 fellowship classes. She loves sports (particularly surfing, volleyball, and tennis) and the power of service.
