Majed Muhtaseb is a professor of finance at Cal Poly Pomona. He is the inaugural director of our Global Leadership Initiative. His passion for global getaways has led him to tour the streets of 35 countries. His global experience encompasses working in academia, industry and government.
Muhtaseb served as a senior adviser at Securities and Commodities Authority in the UAE, the counterpart to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. His knowledge of hedge funds is extensive. Earlier in his career, he served as research director for Global Fund Analysis, a fund of hedge funds consultancy in London, England. He was responsible for investment-manager research.
His primary research interests are in securities markets and portfolio management, especially hedge funds performance, activism and manager fraud. Muhtaseb published many research articles in leading reference journals such as Journal of Investing, Managerial Finance, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Financial Crime and the Financial Times. He actively participates in academic and industry conferences. He ran workshops at the Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime.
Since 2013, Muhtaseb has sponsored teams made up of Cal Poly Pomona students to compete in the global investment research challenge, organized by the CFA Institute.
Muhtaseb earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in business administration at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1987. He and his wife, Nesrin, live in Yorba Linda with their three adult children, Zade, Ameer and Jude.
