Lanterman
Cal Poly Pomona’s journey with the Lanterman Development Center began when the university acquired possession of this historic 300-acre property in 2015. Together, with a master developer, the university is focused on revitalizing the Lanterman property into a thriving live, learn, work and play community that meets the university’s growing needs and creates lasting value for the university and surrounding communities.
Master planning for Lanterman will be a dynamic, long-term effort – but one that is necessary to create a cohesive strategy and framework for growth that aligns with the vision for this property. Housing, recreational, and community-serving spaces, locations that invite collaboration and investment from the private sector, and facilities that support industry and strengthen workforce partnerships, are just a few of the exciting possibilities for this property.
While the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented global disruption to every life, organization, and industry, including higher education and real estate development, CPP remains steadfast in its commitment to the future development of Lanterman and the unique opportunity it provides to bring transformative change to the university and the region.

About Lanterman
The site, once operated by the California Department of Developmental Services, became available to Cal Poly Pomona in 2016 through a Memorandum of Understanding with the state. After a year of study and analysis, the university informed the CSU Board of Trustees that it was interested in undertaking the process to secure the property and begin the steps to identify a master developer to manage the process. Here is a timeline of the process.
