ABOUT
The Assessment Revolutionary Recognition Program celebrates the exceptional efforts of Cal Poly Pomona faculty who improve student learning and the learning environment by developing and implementing closing-the-loop strategies and changes (to teaching, curriculum, or instructional design) in response to assessment data at the program, college, or institutional level.
Recipients are featured on the OAPR website and are recognized at the Annual Cal Poly Pomona Summer Assessment Institute. Recipients advance teaching and learning at Cal Poly Pomona by sharing their strategies as a part of the Assessment Revolutionary Recognition Program Presentation Series the following academic year.
Nominations for the Assessment Revolutionary Recognition Program are due December 15, 2022. Applications are due January 31, 2023

Why should I nominate myself or another award for the Assessment Revolutionary Recognition Program?
The Assessment Revolutionary Recognition is a competitive university-level award. In addition to validating the great work of recipients to improve student learning, this award also distinguishes the recipients as campus leaders in the area of academic assessment.How are recipients selected?
Nominate your colleagues by December 15, 2022 or apply for your own program by January 31, 2023 using the appropriate form at the bottom of this webpage. The Office of Assessment and Program Review (OAPR) will review all nominations with a selection committee including faculty and OAPR staff.
What’s involved if I get selected?
Recipients are featured on the OAPR website and are recognized at the Annual Cal Poly Pomona Summer Assessment Institute. Award announcements are circulated across the Cal Poly Pomona campus. Recipients further advance teaching and learning at Cal Poly Pomona by sharing their strategies as a part of the Assessment Revolutionary Recognition Program Presentation Series the following academic year. This speaking opportunity provides the campus an opportunity that further celebrates the accomplishments of recipients and demonstrates revolutionary “closing the loop” techniques to others.
Recognition in the amount of one $500 winner and two $250 honorable mentions are available as awards to academic programs. Programs should use the funds to support assessment-related activities, such as:
- Faculty stipends
- Student stipends
- Student incentives
- Registration and/or travel to assessment conferences
- Assessment speakers for the program
All expenses are subject to policies associated with the use of state funds.
What are the Assessment Revolutionary Recognition criteria?
- Changes align with assessment outcome(s) and findings. Clear evidence was used as the basis for changes, and the rationale for how the closing the loop strategy addressed that evidence is well-articulated.
- Strategies are innovative and/or especially meaningful. Novel, creative, and/or carefully-crafted techniques were used to address learning outcomes.
- Efficacy of changes are (or will be) measured. Changes in SLO performance are measured, and evidence is shared to evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies; OR that a detailed plan to implement this criteria is articulated.
- Practices are inclusive. Consideration was (or will be) given to the diversity of student learners to strive for equity in assessment and academic practices.
- Bonus question: Practices are scalable and/or adaptable to other programs. Practices may be easily adapted by other programs. The focus is on the process, and not the content of the close-the-loop strategy.
