Subject: Supporting You Through the Faculty Strike on Monday

Dear Students,

In our conversations with students during the past week, we recognize that students are not clear on what to expect during the planned California Faculty Association (CFA) strike at Cal Poly Pomona on Monday, December 4. We want to ensure that you have the facts and support you need to navigate the day, as we do expect that it will be disruptive to our normal operations.

Please visit the Strike Info website for important information, FAQs and updates, including the following:

  • The campus, student services and resources will remain open. This includes but is not limited to housing, dining, Bronco Student Center, BRIC, Health Center, Care Center, Bronco Advising Center and the University Library. If there are changes to the hours or availability of specific offices, we will update you.

  • Attend your classes if they haven’t been canceled. Do not assume that all your classes will be canceled. Some faculty will still choose to hold classes. You should ask your professors/instructors, check Canvas and your CPP email for notifications of any changes to your classes.

  • Expect picket lines at campus entrances. We anticipate a large number of picketers at all entrances to campus including the intersections of Kellogg Drive and University Drive (I-10 Freeway exit), Kellogg Drive and Red Gum Lane, and South Campus Drive and Temple Avenue. While picketers may demonstrate and use the crosswalks, they may not block or obstruct access to campus, classrooms or campus services. You are allowed to cross any picket line and you are not obligated to provide the members of a picket line with your name or any information.

  • Plan for significant traffic and transportation delays. Give yourself additional travel time when coming to and going from campus. We will have extra Mobility Assistance Carts available for eligible students, faculty and staff with mobility difficulties.

  • We expect media to be on campus to cover the strike activity. You can speak to the media but aren’t required to. Whether or not you choose to speak to members of the media, we encourage you to direct any media inquiries to our Media Relations team at mediarelations@cpp.edu.

The campus is likely to look and feel quite different from what you are used to. If you are feeling impacted regarding strike activity, support is available for you. You can access:

Cal Poly Pomona’s faculty are a valued and vital part of our campus community, and we respect their right to strike. We remain hopeful that the CSU and CFA will reach an agreement on a contract. During the strike and beyond, we are committed to helping you succeed at CPP, complete your courses, graduate on time, and experience a safe and welcoming campus environment. Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and patience during this time.

Sincerely, Christina Gonzales
Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students
