Subject: Faculty Union (CFA) Strike on Dec. 4

Dear Faculty,

We are aware that CFA has called for a work-stoppage strike and intends to picket at CPP on Monday, December 4. While you have the right to strike, you are not obligated to strike. Unions are legally prohibited from coercing members from coming to work. If you come to work or work remotely, depending on course modality, you will receive the same compensation and benefits you normally receive.

If you don’t come to work or don’t work remotely in accordance with your course modality, you will not be paid. You are not entitled to use your sick leave or other accruals to be paid for your absence if you are on strike. Benefits that are affected by the percentage of time worked during the month other than medical may be affected. If you go on strike, you must advise the appropriate administrator that you were absent or use the dock code in PeopleSoft at the conclusion of the strike.

In short, you are entitled to come to work during a strike. You may cross picket lines that may be at the entrances to the university or choose an entrance that does not have a picket line. You are under no obligation to provide the members of a picket line with any personal information.

We understand that this will be a difficult day for CSU faculty and other employees, and we honor any decision you make in regard to participation or non-participation in the strike. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact George Tejadilla at gtejadilla@cpp.edu, 909-869-2277 or Jill Hargis at jehargis@cpp.edu, 909-869-3882.

Sincerely,

Jill Hargis
Interim Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs
