Subject: Faculty Union (CFA) Announce CPP Strike on Dec. 4

Dear Students,

As you may have heard, the California Faculty Association (CFA), representing professors, lecturers, coaches, librarians and counselors in the CSU have called for a work-stoppage strike on December 4 and will be picketing on the Cal Poly Pomona campus on Monday, December 4. This comes after months of negotiations between the California State University (CSU) and CFA, and the CSU remains committed to reaching an agreement with CFA as it did with five other unions.

Cal Poly Pomona leaders have been preparing for the possibility of a strike, and our top priorities continue to be your success at Cal Poly Pomona, completing your semester courses so that you may graduate on time, and providing a safe and welcoming campus environment for everyone.

Here is some important information about the anticipated strike.

  • The campus will remain open. University operations, services and events should continue as planned. More information, FAQs and updates about the strike are posted on the Strike Info website (www.cpp.edu/strike-info).

  • Student services and resources will remain open. This includes but is not limited to University Housing (residence halls, suites and University Village), Bronco Student Center, BRIC, University Library, Centerpointe dining hall, Bronco Advising Center, Care Center, Health Center and the cultural centers.

  • Communicate directly with each of your instructors/faculty members. You may ask them whether class will be canceled. You should also check Canvas and your CPP email for notifications of any changes to your classes. Do not assume that all your classes will be canceled, as not all faculty will strike. The strike should not have any negative impact on your ability to complete your courses or your ability to graduate on time. If a professor has not communicated that they have canceled class, you should attend the class as normal. Visit the Strike Info website for more information, student FAQs, and tips on communicating with your instructor/faculty member before the strike begins on Dec. 4.

  • If a class or service is canceled, you will be able to report it via a link on the Strike Info website (available next week). Your submission will help the university understand the impact of the strike on your student experience.

  • If you are feeling anxious regarding strike activity, support is available for you. You can access:
    • The Care Center (Building 97 Marketplace, first floor), 909-869-5071 or carecenter@cpp.edu
    • Counseling and Psychological Services (Building 66, room 116), 909-869-3220 or caps@cpp.edu

The university remains committed to providing you with the highest quality educational experience. We will continue to provide updates via the Strike Info website and email. Your understanding, cooperation and patience during this time are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Christina Gonzales
Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students
