CSU Teamsters’ Union Announces 24 Hour Strike

Date: November 9, 2023
From: CPP Employee and Org Devel & Advancement
To: Represented Staff Not in Unit 6

Dear CPP Non-Teamsters’ Union Represented Employee,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of your obligations during the one-day CSU Teamsters’ Union (Skilled Crafts Unit 6) strike on November 14 as a non-Teamsters’ Union represented employee. Our university will remain open during any such strike. Student instruction and other student services will continue during this activity. The university is obligated as a public institution to provide these student services. You are expected to continue to come to work and to perform your job duties.

You are to report to work each scheduled workday at your regular work time.

Unless you have been granted leave time, you must come to work. If you are absent from work without prior authorization, you are not entitled to be paid. You must enter your absence using the “dock” code in PeopleSoft. A pop-up window will appear after you enter “dock” and will inform you that prior authorization to use the “dock” code is required. You do not need prior authorization to use the “dock” code in this instance. Simply click on “ok”, then enter your time off as “dock”. An unapproved absence from work may result in you being charged with an absence without leave (AWOL). Failure to attend work or to perform your job duties may result in a disciplinary action.

Your collective bargaining agreement may prevent you from participating in a sympathy strike. Employees who engage in sympathy strikes will not be paid for time off and are not eligible to use their vacation or other time off accruals. Benefits that are affected by the percentage of time worked during the month may be affected.

There may be picket lines at the entrance to the university. You are expected to cross this picket line to enter the university if it is safe to do so or to choose an entrance that does not have a picket line. You are not obligated to provide the members of a picket line with any personal information including your name, your classification, or your job location.

If a member of the picket line harasses you or if you contend that crossing the line is unsafe, you may report it to Employee/Labor Relations & Compliance at elr@cpp.edu.

The university understands this may be a difficult time for all employees. The university appreciates your cooperation during this period.

In the event this may be a helpful resource to you, the Employee Assistance Program is available for those in need of additional support resources. Staff, their dependents, and permanent household members may contact CPPLifeMatters by Empathia. CPPLifeMatters is available on a live basis, 24 hours a day/7days a week at (800) 367-7474 and https://www.cpp.edu/employee-assist/index.shtml.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Allain
