Subject: Supporting Our Community Impacted by Wildfires

With the ongoing wildfires in the region and evacuations, we recognize that this is a difficult time for our campus community. Campus leadership is closely monitoring the situation and connecting with our local agencies and partners to ensure that our community is safe and supported.

Please see below for information on the fires and resources available to students, faculty and staff.

Resources for Students

Students affected by the wildfires or an evacuation can access emergency housing, basic needs resources, and wellness support through the Care Center. We're here to help you navigate any challenges you may be facing or connect you to resources available to you.

The Care Center is located on the first floor of Building 97. You can reach us by emailing carecenter@cpp.edu or calling 909-869-5071. Walk-in hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and we are open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Resources for Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff who need support can reach out to My Life Matters at 1-800-367-7474 or mylifematters.com for free, confidential services. Visit CPP’s Fire Relief Resources webpage for links to a variety of resources.

If you are unable to report to work, follow your department’s normal attendance reporting procedures. If you need additional time before resuming work duties, visit the Leave of Absence website for more information. Administrators are encouraged to work with the employee to address their specific situation in collaboration with the Leave of Absence Coordinator at employee-leaves@cpp.edu.

Air Quality Impacts

Wildfires can decrease air quality in the region, and people may experience adverse health effects. During periods of poor air quality, CPP’s Environmental Health & Safety recommends that you:

  • Avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
  • Keep windows closed until air quality improves.
  • Wear a mask if you need to be outdoors. All students, faculty and staff can pick up a mask from the Cintas PPE dispenser cabinets located throughout campus (e.g., Library, SSB, BRIC, BSC, etc.). Contact your department or divisional liaison to access the cabinet.
  • Student residents can also get a mask from the front desk of your residence hall, Buildings’ 59 or 74 UHS administration desks.

Situational Update

At Cal Poly Pomona, in-person instruction and business operations are continuing as normal. The university will continue to monitor the situation and communicate with you as updates are available.

Status updates about the active wildfires are available on the Cal Fire website. The incident pages also list areas under evacuation order or evacuation warning, road closures and shelter locations.
