About the Program

Make a transformational impact in housing and public space and placemaking, contributing to equitable (re)development of cities and regions. By combining classroom and community-based learning activities, you will gain practical knowledge of the history, theories, and methods (analytical and engagement) that will help you work more ethically and efficiently in complex and sometimes contentious professional and political settings.

The Polytechnic Approach

Blend compassion with civic engagement, learn to advocate for communities and understand your place in enacting social change. Learn methods of negotiation and mediation to balance competing interests. Investigate planning issues that affect working-class communities in the Los Angeles area and develop solutions. Here, you will develop the tools to become an equity minded professional.

This option focuses on critical issues such as housing, economic development, public space, and social diversity. Designed for those passionate about equitable urban and regional development, the program combines classroom learning with community-based activities. You will gain practical knowledge in history, theory, and analytical methods, preparing you to work ethically and effectively in complex and often contentious professional and political environments.

The Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning is accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Peter J Pitassi Design Scholarship

Open to freshman, sophomore and incoming transfer students majoring in Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Urban and Regional Planning with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This scholarship award is $2,000.
