About the Program
Positively impact the lives of people and their environment. Restore wetlands, create habitats for endangered species, grow food, organize creative play, and even remove toxins from rainwater. Landscape Architecture happens at the intersection of environmental science, art, and ecology. It uses expertise in human and ecological health, beauty, and culture to combine engineering, entrepreneurship, and design.
The Polytechnic Approach
We empower the landscape of the future by educating those that will create it – people like you. As the largest and most diverse program of our kind in the nation, we use Southern California’s creative and cultural capital to train you to address the ecological and social challenges of the 21st century. You’ll see the impact of your work firsthand by developing plans to support real spaces, connecting with actual clients and seeing your vision become reality. With a strong network of Broncos who came before you, field studies in bustling historic cities like Los Angeles and even studying abroad in Italy or Japan, Landscape Architecture at CPP is for the bravely curious like you.
Career Outcomes
Courses
Landscape Architects are concerned with the design, management, preservation, and use of the land. Our curriculum provides a foundation in all these areas with an emphasis on design and the cultural and technical subjects that support it. Coursework includes landscape design and planning processes, graphic communications, ecology, plants and planting design, construction methods, and environmental history. We foster the development of creative and problem-solving abilities, communication skills, technical knowledge, environmental awareness, and professional attitudes. In most courses, students develop design proposals or technical solutions for actual sites. Additionally, the curriculum includes extensive field studies and day trips within the Los Angeles region.

Alumni Feature
Pamela Galera (‘92, landscape architecture)
"Landscape architecture is a really big profession. You can go into academics and be a teacher, you could go into the National Park Service, you could go into private design working for a developer, or even do residential design. You could do a lot of different things with landscape architecture. I realized early in my career that I really wanted to work in the public sector. I wanted to design parks for families to make their lives better. So, I ended up becoming a park planner... I really feel like I have made a difference.”
