Build upon your education in civil engineering with courses in surveying, remote sensing, photogrammetry, geographical information systems and global positioning systems. Lay the groundwork for your dream career as a licensed civil engineer, land surveyor or land development engineer.
The Polytechnic Approach
Map the land with the latest technologies, including global positioning system (GPS) receivers, 3D scanners, and geographical information systems (GIS) databases. Study laws and applications of surveying for public lands. Prepare for your career by using industry tools and techniques throughout your undergraduate education and graduate ready to make your mark on the field.

The Civil Engineering program prepares graduates to enter the profession in planning, design, construction, operations, or management capacities on infrastructure projects. The geospatial engineering option prepares you to succeed in the land surveying and geomatics profession. The Geospatial Engineering Option in the Civil Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria, the Program Criteria for Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Programs, and the Program Criteria for Surveying and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.

Associate Professor, Civil Engineering
Mehrad Kamalzare
Dr. Mehrad Kamalzare joined the civil engineering department as an Assistant Professor in 2016. Prior to that, he was a licensed professional engineer in New York and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rutgers University, teaching graduate level classes in geotechnical engineering. In 2022 Dr. Kamalzare was promoted to Associate Professor and currently teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of Geotechnical Engineering, also his main research focus.

An excellent college education includes much more than classes, and extracurricular activities can enhance your college experience. That’s why the Civil Engineering Department encourages participation in student clubs, competition teams, and organizations.
