The Polytechnic Approach
Plan the annual COM Day event, from deciding a theme to promotion to handling RSVPs. Write for The Poly Post, the independent student-run newspaper, and break news stories on campus. Create a public relations campaign for a real-world client. Conduct research on par with graduate-level work under the guidance of faculty experts. Here, you will gain hands-on experiences that prepare you to take on countless careers or graduate programs.

In today's complex world, effective communication is essential for informing and engaging society about critical issues and challenges. The Communication major prepares students to meet these needs through three specialized concentrations: Communication Studies develops expertise in organizational dynamics and research through theory-based analysis; Multimedia Journalism equips students with digital storytelling and production skills for diverse media platforms; and Public Relations trains strategic communicators who build relationships between organizations and their stakeholders. Graduates pursue careers across media, corporations, government, nonprofit, and education sectors.

Frank A. Tennant Endowed Scholarship
A $7,780 annual scholarship will be awarded to multiple applicants of freshmen, sophomore, or junior standing . Students active in Communication clubs and student media on campus are particularly encouraged to apply.

Communication Alumnus Finds His Voice and Purpose
“When you are doing communications, your job is never stationary,” Landin says. “I find it exciting. I love telling other people’s stories.” That passion for communications has provided Landin, a first-generation college student, with various opportunities from internships with NASA and General Motors to a trip to the White House to participate in the first-ever Mental Health Youth Action Forum. Landin has been an advocate for mental health for several years.
