Auditioning for American Idol may not have led to future rounds for Emily Quinton but being a finalist in Cal Poly Pomona’s 2020 First Year Experience Common Read essay contest demonstrated that continuing to follow her passions can lead to new opportunities. As a freshman, she applied to and became a member of the Bronco Startup Challenge marketing team, later serving as the team’s captain. Her interest in media production helped secure her current job with MediaVision, where she helps  produce university videos. Emily sees studying marketing at Cal Poly Pomona as a perfect fit for combining her variety of interests and her drive to continually strive, saying, “I try to enter every situation with a best-case scenario mindset. I let my heart guide me to my next trial, and my mind gets me to the finish line.” After graduation, she hopes to pursue media marketing for firms such as Disney Imagineering because of the joy she finds in creativity.
