Chris Hallman lost his mother to multiple myeloma cancer less than a month before starting his MBA program and full-time job at the Bronco Bookstore. “The last thing I told my mother was that I would earn my MBA degree for her because she valued education so highly,” Chris recalls. “Her dream was for her boys to go to college.” Chris wants to inspire and create community with others who may also face hardships during his time at Cal Poly Pomona. Earning a 4.0 GPA in his first semester while having the freedom to change systems and projects at the bookstore makes Chris realize that “Cal Poly Pomona is a beautiful place inside and out. I am proud to represent this campus to show others they can keep pushing forward. If I can help students like myself and let them know they are not alone, that will be my pursuit of happiness.” Grateful to receive the President’s Scholars Scholarship, Christopher hopes to create a scholarship that encourages future Cal Poly Pomona students to do anything in their lives despite challenges.
