Faheem sees Cal Poly Pomona as a “home away from home” where his motivation to become the best engineer he can be is nurtured by the university’s welcoming environment and supportive mentors. His interest in green technology comes from the challenges he observed in his home country of Pakistan. “There, climate change has resulted in accelerated melting of colossal glaciers and my dream is to revolutionize industrial practices to reduce the carbon footprint, create employment and reduce poverty in such developing countries.” From engineering, Faheem has built a strong sense of social responsibility, while backpacking around the world has given him a chance to immerse himself into other cultures through food and comradery. “I recently traveled with a group of Italians who were chefs, and the simple way they grilled blew my mind away and taught me a lesson to always question the conventional ways.” Being the first in his family to graduate, Faheem wants to inspire his siblings to also pursue their desires.
