If you ask Ethan why students should choose Cal Poly Pomona, his answer demonstrates his positive mindset: “Different perspectives are essential for growth.” As the eldest sibling and the first person in his immediate family to earn a college degree in the United States, Ethan values the diversity of connections with his fellow students in activities ranging from professional opportunities as a student leader in Beta Alpha Psi to his immersion into his heritage as a first-generation Filipino American immigrant through Barkada, the Filipino-American Student Association. Fondly recalling his grandfather’s proud words to him at a younger age that “you can be the next President of the Philippines,” Ethan’s academic and extracurricular excellence pay tribute to his continuing zest for learning especially when combined with service. Encouraging him along the way has been Ethan’s father, who has served as a role model in his insurance sales career and in his recent achievement of his lifelong goal of homeownership, demonstrating that hard work provides lifelong benefits. After graduation, Ethan aspires to earn his certified public accountant license and give back to his family that has provided tremendous inspiration for him.
