Jasmine Enriquez
Lowell Overton President’s Scholar
Major: Psychology with a Minor in Social Work
College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences
University Programs: Kellogg Honors College member; Disability Resource Center student assistant, Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) tutor
Among the exceptional students in Kellogg Honors College, Jasmine Enriquez engages with the community through INSAN Foundation to provide needed services in the Pomona area. As an AVID tutor, she demonstrates the value she places on her education by encouraging others to consider college. Her academic goals, including a minor in social work, are fueled by her supportive family and CPP faculty and staff such as Kevin Colaner. “His kindness gave me the motivation to continue college and strive for the academic success I have today,” she says. “Working with the Disability Resource Center and with its administrators who have also changed my life, I learn daily the importance of fighting for equality within the disability community and the importance of immersing myself in a whole new culture. Receiving this scholarship, I can also show my parents their sacrifices were worth it and show my gratitude for my family’s efforts that allow me to continue my education.” After graduation, Jasmine will pursue speech therapy and create safe spaces for those facing challenges.
