Addressing Parking Challenges at Cal Poly Pomona

Dear Campus Community,

The start of a new semester brings excitement and new opportunities. It also brings some familiar challenges, and I am aware that parking is one of these perennial issues.

I acknowledge that parking on our campus is an unwelcome source of stress for many of our students, faculty, and staff. I want to assure you that I hear your concerns and that the university has been taking proactive steps to make traveling to campus and navigating parking easier.

I strongly encourage our community to make use of the numerous resources designed to help you make your way efficiently to campus:

• Last spring, we added capacity to the overflow parking lots at Innovation Village. There is always a space available in one of these lots. They are served by the Bronco shuttle and also connect to campus with sidewalks and bike lanes. We are also increasing the number of shuttles that serve these lots. I invite you to download the CPP Mobile app, which provides up-to-the-minute shuttle information. (During the first few weeks of the semester when demand is the highest, the CPP Mobile app also sends out notifications when parking lots fill so you can better plan for getting to campus.)

• The CPP Rideshare Program has a variety of options for traveling to campus, including carpooling. Registered carpool vehicles receive preferential parking locations on campus.

• Metro and Foothill Transit provide reduced-fare transit passes for students.

In addition to these resources, we continue to pursue other solutions to improve access to campus. Prof. Richard Willson from our Department of Urban and Regional Planning, an expert on ground transportation and parking reform, is reviewing campus parking and access and will work with campus stakeholders to implement recommendations. And over the long-term, the draft Campus Master Plan includes an on-campus transit transfer facility, bicycle lanes, and improved shuttles. I commit to sharing updates with you on further planned improvements.
