Procedure for Changing a Management Personnel Plan (MPP) Employee's Working Title

Administrative Grade Levels III and IV

Policy: Working Titles for Management Personnel Plan (MPP) employees Administrative Grade Level (AGL) III and IV must be approved by the President. 

Procedure 

1. A memo is initiated by the appropriate Vice President and forwarded to the President, requesting the new title. Incorporated into the memo must be the following information: 

  • Employee's name for whom the request is being submitted, along with their current Administrative Grade Level (AGL) and working title.
  • Proposed new working title. MPP working titles must be appropriate, based on the scope of responsibility and accountability assigned to the position. Titles should be developed in consultation with the Associate Vice President for Human Resource Services and Risk Programs.
  • All University Vice Presidents must be given an opportunity to provide input before forwarding a proposed title to the President.
  • Effective date of proposed title change.
  • Rationale and justification for the title change. If the title change request includes a salary change or change in AGL, coordination and consultation with Human Resource Services is required prior to submitting the official request. Human Resource Services may perform an internal/external CSU salary survey analyses to provide input to the proposed salary increase prior approval.
  • Attached to the memo must be:

a. A copy of the individual's current job description.

b. A copy of the new job description prepared on the appropriate form.

c. An updated organization chart.

2. The President has final approval of all MPP III and IV working title changes. The President can signify his/her approval on the memo.

3. Once a title change request has been approved by the president, the signed paperwork will be forwarded to Human Resource Services. A letter from the President (or President's Designee) will be prepared, in consultation with the Associate Vice President for Human Resource Services and Risk Programs, and given to the employee notifying him/her of the working title change and salary change, if any.

Policy: Working titles for AGL I and II positions must be approved by the appropriate division Vice President. 

Procedure

4. A memo is initiated by the appropriate manager and forwarded to the Vice President, requesting the new title. Incorporated into the memo must be the following information:

  • Employee's name for whom the request is being submitted, along with their current Administrative Grade Level (AGL) and working title.
  • Proposed new working title. MPP working titles must be appropriate, based on the scope of responsibility and accountability assigned to the position. Titles should be developed in consultation with the Associate Vice President for Human Resource Services and Risk Programs.
  • Effective date of proposed title change.

5. The Vice President has final approval of all MPP I and II working title changes. The Vice President can signify his/her approval on the memo. 

Once a title change request has been approved by the Vice President, the signed paperwork will be forwarded to Human Resource Services. A letter from the Vice President (or his/her designee) will be prepared, in consultation with the Associate Vice President for Human Resource Services and Risk Programs, and given to the employee notifying him/her of the working title change and salary change, if any.
