CPP Condemns Antisemitism and Islamophobia
November 9, 2023
Dear Cal Poly Pomona Community,
In an email message to campus on November 7, we stated that “Cal Poly Pomona affirms the importance of free speech and expression in fostering the intellectual life of our community.” Given the rise of antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents across the nation and on our own campus, we felt it was important to follow up and make our stance and expectations clear.
While we are committed to fostering a campus environment that values and critically engages with diverse viewpoints, we reject all forms of antisemitism and Islamophobia, violence, discrimination, and racism, as well as anti-Israeli and anti-Palestinian sentiment. If we aspire to be an inclusive campus marked by mutual respect, we must collectively stand against hate.
Campus safety and the well-being of all Broncos are our top priorities, and multiple campus divisions are working together to ensure adherence to all safety procedures. We have stepped up security and outreach to affected student groups and we will be sharing guidance for administrators, faculty and staff. Our expectation is that faculty, staff, students and administrators will engage in classroom and other discussions in a manner that is respectful of all CPP community members.
If you witness or experience an instance of bias or hate, including verbal, written, physical threats or racial harassment, please report it to the University Police Department and the Office of Equity and Compliance.
