William R. And June Dale Prize for Excellence in Urban and Regional Planning
How will Southern California respond to the pressures of growth while achieving sustainability and good community design? One part of the answer lies in collaborations between planning, landscape architecture, architecture and graphic design. Today's challenges call for a coordinated approach that reaches all the way to the education of professionals in those fields.
The 2008 Dale Prize winners explored opportunities for collaboration between planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and art in professional practice and education. How should planning and the design professions work together to address issues such as sustainability and climate change? What practice trends should shape planning and design education? In turn, how can planning and design education contribute to practice and learning in other disciplines?
About the Dale Prize
The Dale Prize is an annual event organized by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Cal Poly Pomona. It recognizes planning excellence, creates dialogue between scholars and practitioners, and enriches the education of planning students.
William R. Dale, a planner with public agency experience in Florida, first came to Cal Poly Pomona in 1964. He was a founding faculty member of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and served as department chair.
