Water Investigation Initiated at Two-Story Section of College of Engineering
Summary of disruption: For the next several weeks, plumbers from Facilities Planning & Management will be investigating the plumbing system in the two-story section of the College of Engineering (Building 9) to identify and locate the potential source of old lead packing or lead solder pipe joints that may be causing an elevated level of lead tracing in the water. All water fountains, filling stations, and laboratory and kitchenette faucets have been isolated and taken out of service. Restrooms will not be affected by the water shutoff and will remain open.
Reason for disruption: The 60-year-old pipes and low water usage in the building may have contributed to the detection of lead in water sampling. The source of lead will need to be identified and removed.
How does this affect me? Do not use water fountains, filling stations and faucets in laboratories and kitchenettes in the two-story section.
What do I need to do? Do not drink or consume water from the two-story section at the College of Engineering. Only drink or consume water from sources at the five-story building.
