A Message from Dean Dopson
June 5, 2020
Dear Collins College Family,
The global hospitality community thrives on shaping the human experience. George Floyd’s right to the human experience was taken as he was unjustly stolen from his family and this world – just as countless African Americans have for centuries in this country.
We shall not remain silent. The Collins College of Hospitality Management stands together with Cal Poly Pomona and the African American community as we fight to end systemic racism and oppression.
For many, the Collins College is a second home, and as members of our family, our African American faculty, staff, and students have the right to feel safe, heard, and valued in our home. We commit to an all-inclusive working and learning environment, and we continue to sustain our core values of pursuing academic excellence, inspiring student success, and embracing diversity.
I am proud of President Coley’s statement and fully support her request to join Cal Poly Pomona in recommitting to our values. As a college, we are dedicated now more than ever to provide a safe space for our community by engaging in challenging conversations around the issue of racism during a time when educating people is so important.
Warmest regards,
Lea R. Dopson
