Professor Emeritus John Self Publishes First Book
February 26, 2021
Collins College Professor Emeritus John Self recently published his first book, “The New Restaurant Manager,” which is intended for new managers who want to avoid the mistakes that most beginner managers make.
Self draws on decades of experience teaching, owning three independent restaurants, and managing several chains including Chili’s and Steak and Ale.
“I decided to write this book because there is no reason why new managers should continue to make the same mistakes others have in the past,” said Self. “New restaurant managers can be so much more productive; companies can be much more efficient and new managers can accelerate their careers and reduce their stress.”
Mario Jaramillo, a 2012 alumnus and past student of the Self’s, shared his impressions after reading the book.
“The book reads as if you were sitting for a weekly or monthly meeting over coffee with a mentor that wants to see you succeed and more importantly enjoy your career,” said Jaramillo. “Grab this book if you are a new manager, thinking of joining the hospitality industry, thinking of leaving the industry, or have new managers working for you.”
“The New Restaurant Manager” is available in paperback and e-book on Amazon.
