Seventy-five people from the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality student chapters attended the annual NSMH Western Regional Conference: #NSMHTAKESCPP on February 23-25 at The Collins College. The three-day conference was planned, organized and executed by CPP's NSMH chapter uner the guidance of faculty advisors Lesley Butler.
A diverse group Collins College alumni and industry partners participated as conference speakers, while Collins College faculty, staff, and students volunteers came together to execute the regional conference.
Attendees heard the story of Porto's Bakery & Cafe from Raul Porto, president of the iconic Cuban bakery chain. Jaime Lepe, 2007 alumnus and director of operations for his family’s business, JML Restaurants, which owns and operates Tropical Mexico in Pomona, spoke on the topic of entrepreneurship, and 1993 alumnus Robert Cohen of Farmer's Insurance Agency presented on effective money management.
Additionally, partners from Encore, Accor, Salamander, Aramark, Hilton, Hyatt, Four Seasons, and Kimpton were in the conference job fair and NSMH executive board members participated in various industry panels.
A highlight of the conference was the tour of the Kellogg West Conference Center and Lodge and the Kellogg House Pomona, which culminated with a reception that was beyond expectations according to attendees.
