Jeffrey Nelson and Andrea Hernandez Win Award at APCG
Jeffrey Nelson and Andrea Hernandez, undergraduate geography majors in the Department of Geography & Anthropology, won the President's Award for Outstanding Poster Presentation at last week's annual meeting of the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers in Palm Springs, California. The competition was open to both undergraduate and graduate students so the recognition is especially sweet. Nelson and Hernandez combined a geographic information system analysis with a field assessment to evaluate and rank the public parks of Pomona, California. Their work is an excellent example of using two complementary techniques to develop an assessment that is substantially more revealing than either technique could produce alone. The research presented in their poster was derived from a project they conducted for Geography 435 - Parks and Protected Areas during the spring 2015 quarter.
