CLASS 2020 Valedictorian Kimberly Logan

Kimberly Logan is the co-valedictorian for the 2020 graduating class of the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences. Kimberly is receiving her BA in Communication. Kimberly shares what Cal Poly Pomona has meant to her, her plans for the future, including working with children, and words of encouragement to her fellow graduates. Read her Q&A to get to know your 2020 CLASS Valedictorian!

Q: What was your most memorable experience at Cal Poly Pomona?

A: I have so many memories from my time at Cal Poly Pomona, but as I reflected on them, I noticed a theme: my friends. The friends I have made while on this campus are my most memorable experience. Without them, I would not have had such an amazing time at Cal Poly Pomona. Together, we learned how to navigate the campus, the library, and parking! I am so grateful for the people that I have met here and the way we have encouraged one another and supported one another through our time at Cal Poly Pomona. I will always cherish these experiences.

Q: What are your plans after Cal Poly Pomona?

A: I have taken a position at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills as the 1st and 2nd Grade Ministry Director. I love working with children, so this job is the perfect fit! I get to oversee and plan all the activities, events, and services for 1st and 2nd graders; it is the best job! I am also considering pursuing a graduate degree in interpersonal communication, but I want to take a year or two break before going back to school. In the meantime, I am looking forward to diving into my job, spending more time with family and friends, and hopefully sprinkling in some travel here and there!

Q: Who inspires you and why?

A: This was probably the hardest question for me to answer. This was not because I did not know who inspires me, but because I did not want to sound cliche. However, I realized that I couldn’t deny the fact that my mom is truly the person who inspires me the most! She is a tremendous woman who has loved her family faithfully and served all in her life with selfless abandon. Her gentle heart and compassion for others inspire me to see others as she does. My mom has always been an example in her conduct as a wife, a mom, a sister, a friend, and a believer in Christ. I am so thankful to have had such an incredible woman in my life to inspire me to be a better woman.

Q: What words do you have for your peers graduating?

A: As I have reflected on all that we have gone through this semester, I have realized how important it is to be grateful for what we have. What is here today may not be here tomorrow. I want to encourage us to not allow ourselves to get bogged down by the cares of this world as we transition into this new season of life, but to instead, remind ourselves to be grateful for what has brought us here, the things we have here, and the things that are to come. Let’s keep a grateful heart as we start this new chapter.

Q: How has your experience at Cal Poly Pomona shaped the person you are today?

A: Throughout my time at Cal Poly Pomona, I was challenged and encouraged to step out of my comfort zone, to keep exploring and growing. I never imagined that all of my hard work would lead to this amazing honor of representing C.L.A.S.S. as one of two valedictorians! I am so thankful for the support and encouragement I have received from my experience at Cal Poly Pomona to keep pressing on and not allow challenges to hold me back.
