Antonio Turok: Mexico Resistance

November 16, 2021

Join us on Tuesday, November 30, from 2:30-3:30pm, to meet Antonio Turok, one of Mexico’s most distinguished documentary photographers, as he discusses his black and white images with Chicana curator Maria del Carmen Bernstorff!

Antonio Turok has an eye for surreal details in everyday life, situating his work in a long line of Mexican fine-art photographers such as Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Graciela Iturbide. He has photographed guerrilla conflicts in Central America and Southern Mexico and has documented the Guatemalan genocide, the Nicaraguan civil war, and the Zapatista uprising. Attendees will get first-hand insights into this incredible photographic archive.

The event will take place in the Grand Reading Room, on the 3rd floor of the University Library, as well as on Zoom. It is hosted by the Department of English & Modern Languages and organized by Dr. Kent Dickson, Dr. Álvaro Huerta, and Maria del Carmen Bernstorff K.
