Liberal Studies Professor to Perform in Chorus Celebrating the Life of Freddie Mercury

Liberal Studies Assistant Professor Jeff Roy will join the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) as they present “Queen of the Night,” a concert celebrating the life of lead vocalist Freddie Mercury from April 2-3 at UCLA’s Royce Hall. Together, the chorus will perform a variety of selections by Queen and Freddie Mercury including “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Somebody to Love” and “We Will Rock You.” The concert will be conducted by Ernest H. Harrison, GMCLA’s music director, and feature choreography by Janet Roston.

Roy, a regular participant of the GMCLA, is a musician, composer, filmmaker, and two-time Fulbright recipient. Roy's research on transnational music, film, and media engages in dialogue with queer of color critique, post/decolonial theory, and South Asia studies. Roy currently teaches Liberal Studies courses on arts integration, music and media, and other subjects in the humanities and liberal arts.
