Doctoral Alumna Contributes to Award Winning Publication
April 4, 2023
Monica Santander, Ed.D., an alumna of the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program, contributed to the Routledge published anthology, Queerness as Being in Higher Education: Narrating the Insider/Outsider Paradox as LGBTQ+ Scholars and Practitioners, which has won the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) 2023 Outstanding Publication Award. Her contributing chapter is titled, “Promises of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity: A Conversation of Cruel Optimism Between Two Feminist Queer Latinas.” The chapter discusses the lived experiences of queer Latinas in higher education spaces. Rooted in the queer woman of color tradition, the chapter evaluates critical conversational testimonies of institutional discourses of diversity, equity and inclusion, and academic neoliberalism. In doing so, this work weaves in queer feminist theories by Patricia Hill Collins, Lauren Berlant and Sara Ahmed. For more information about the publication, visit the publisher’s website
