CEIS Earns CTC Accreditation Renewal
April 4, 2023
The teacher credential programs in the College of Education and Integrative Studies at Cal Poly Pomona have attained accreditation renewal by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), which sets the standard for educator preparation programs for California PK-12 schools. Based on this decision, the college is authorized to continue offering all preliminary credential and authorization programs by addressing a few noted program stipulations within one year.
The accreditation team, led by Education Professor Amy Gimino, underwent an extensive review process, which included submitting program information and supporting documentation to demonstrate that all educator preparation programs in CEIS and other colleges are meeting state standards. The process also included organizing a site visit for CTC reviewers to conduct interviews with faculty, staff, students, administration, credential program completers, school district partners and employers.
“Our accreditation planning team did an amazing job planning and preparing for our site visit,” said Gimino. “I want to thank our dedicated team, faculty, staff and everyone who participated in interviews, which contributed to our successful visit.”
In order to maintain CTC accreditation status, an institution must demonstrate that it has the infrastructure to operate effective educator preparation programs; students are recruited and supported in all areas of the educator preparation programs; students are developing the knowledge and skills to support PK-12 students in meeting state content standards through coursework and clinical practice; a comprehensive plan has been developed and implemented to support continuous improvement of its educator preparation programs; and teacher candidates are prepared to effectively educate and support all students in meeting state adopted academic standards. Additionally, each credential program and authorization must demonstrate it has met a rigorous set of program standards.
During the final report reading, site visit team members acknowledged the multitude of positive comments made by students, district partners and credential program completers regarding the quality of Cal Poly Pomona’s educator preparation programs. They also highlighted the dedication of faculty and staff within the college.
“The success of the accreditation visit shows Cal Poly Pomona’s commitment to PK-12 students,” said Professor Jann Pataray-Ching, chair of the Department of Education. “It also shows the dedication of the faculty from the education department as well as professors who serve in the teacher-preparation pipeline across the university.”
In a recent meeting held on March 9, the CTC committee on accreditation made their recommendation official.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to our accreditation planning team for their extraordinary efforts planning and preparing for the visit,” said Interim Dean Hend Gilli-Elewy, CEIS. “The success of the CTC reaccreditation visit is an acknowledgement of the excellent work of our faculty and staff in CEIS and across other colleges preparing future teachers and leaders in PK-12.”
