Faculty from Cal Poly Pomona and San Francisco State University have been awarded a major $200,000 grant from the California Education Learning Lab (Learning Lab) through its AI FAST (Funding for Accelerated Study and Transformation) Challenge.
Notably, this project is one of only six initiatives statewide to receive the maximum funding level of $200,000. It also stands out as the sole business school project among predominantly STEM-focused initiatives, underscoring its ambitious scope and transformative potential.
The grant will support an innovative project titled "Customizable AI Integration in Higher Education: Marketing Example," which aims to develop a comprehensive framework for integrating artificial intelligence into marketing education. This groundbreaking initiative represents a significant step toward expanding AI integration beyond traditional STEM fields into business education.
Selected through a highly competitive review process, this project was chosen to advance AI development and implementation within California's public higher education system. The project's goals include creating AI-enhanced teaching materials, measuring learning outcomes, and promoting equity and inclusion across multiple California universities through a customizable, tiered approach.
The project team brings together expertise from multiple institutions:
- Principal Investigators:
- Yufan (Frank) Lin, Assistant Professor of Marketing (Cal Poly Pomona College of Business Administration)
- Yiwen Chen, Assistant Professor of Marketing (San Francisco State University)
- Co-Principal Investigators:
- In-Hye Kang, Assistant Professor of Marketing (Cal Poly Pomona College of Business Administration)
- Randy Stein, Associate Professor of Marketing (Cal Poly Pomona College of Business Administration)
The California Education Learning Lab, administered through the Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Change (formerly the Governor's Office of Planning and Research), is a state-funded grant program dedicated to improving learning outcomes and closing equity gaps in public higher education. The AI FAST Challenge specifically focuses on optimizing teaching and learning through AI integration while improving the accuracy of assessments and assignments across multiple disciplines.
