Students Earn Food Safety Certification

December 10, 2024

Nearly four dozen Cal Poy Pomona students passed the ServeSafe food manager exam this semester, thanks to two workshops coordinated by the Phi Tau Sigma food science honor society and two students.

Forty-seven out of 57 students passed the exam for an 82.4 percent pass rate. The remaining 10 plan to retake the exam in the spring.

The students attended two workshops that were led by volunteers Robert Maldonado, an agribusiness student; and Tony Wei (’05, food science and technology), who is pursuing a master’s degree in agriculture, nutrition and food science option.

The participating students were from the food science and technology, nutrition, and hospitality management programs.

Additional workshops will be held during the spring semester.

The ServeSafe program is administered by the National Restaurant Association and provides food safety training and certification for foodservice managers.
