Horse Center to Hold Auction

October 5, 2022

Horse lovers will have an opportunity to own part of the Kellogg legacy.

The W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center will auction off nine of its horses in an online sale from Nov. 13 to 19. They include two 2-year-old horses, six 3-year-old horses, and one 5-year-old horse; the group includes mares and geldings.

“Some horses have the potential to be national-caliber show horses, and we have a horse or two that will also fit for the families that are looking for a pleasure horse,” said John Lambert, the center’s executive director.

Selling horses is part of what a breeding farm like the horse center does.

The auction provides the public the opportunity to own some of the finest bloodlines in the world. Many of the horses can trace their bloodlines back to the original Arabian horse herd that cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg owned and raised on his Pomona ranch.

An auction format is used instead of private sales to ensure transparency and fair market pricing, with the proceeds going to support the horse center.

In the past, the auction was held online with live bidding. However, the center is using a different format for the second consecutive year: bidders will have a week to place offers, and they will be able to see rivals’ bids during that period.

“They won’t know who did the bidding, but they will see the increments of the bid,” Lambert said.

The Arabian Horse Times will manage the auction for the horse center. Both the horse center and The Arabian Horse Times will have information and videos of each horse available on their websites to prospective buyers to review.

The horse center also has posted information and photos of the horses on its Facebook page and Instagram.

In addition, prospective buyers can arrange to see the horses in person before the auction. To schedule an appointment, call or text John Lambert at (517 )281-2100 or Maddi Ogburn at Maddi Ogburn (415) 919-7926.
