Ag and Engineering to Tap $241K USDA Grant to Aid Sheep Farmers
Helen Trejo, an assistant professor in apparel merchandising and management, and Simeng Li, an assistant professor in civil engineering, were awarded a four-year, $241,000 USDA grant that will provide learn-by-doing research experiences with U.S. sheep farms and wool to undergraduate students. Their research will prepare students for careers in food, agriculture, natural resources, and human sciences, and it will help farmers, fiber mill owners, fiber and textile researchers, as well as practitioners in the fashion industry who are seeking sustainable approaches and domestic production.
Apparel Merchandising and Management Students Awarded Scholarships
Four apparel merchandising and management students were awarded $5,000 each in a national scholarship competition.
The nonprofit YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund selected students Gabriela Ramirez Luis, Ashley Garcia, Jonathan Mayorga and Viridiana Navarro as scholarship recipients after its annual case study competition.
