As the founder of Brazen Communication, a coaching and consulting company, Dr. Dorine Lawrence-Hughes provides leadership development and coaching opportunities to middle- and executive-level leaders in colleges and universities and has extensive experience coaching and mentoring leaders in higher education.
President Coley to Receive ACE Award

President Soraya M. Coley has been selected to receive the 2023 American Council on Education (ACE) Donna Shavlik Award, which honors an individual who demonstrates a sustained commitment to advancing women in higher education. Coley has spent her decades-long career primarily in the California State University system in various roles, including lecturer, tenured faculty member, department chair, dean, provost and president. As the ACE Southern California Women’s Network presidential sponsor, she is working on creating multiple leadership pathways for women at various stages in their academic careers. Currently, her leadership team is 75 percent women. “I have benefitted so greatly from my mentors and supporters, and I pay that forward however possible. I owe gratitude to them all, especially those who saw potential in me that I never imagined,” said Coley.
