Dr. Yu Sun is a full professor in the Computer Science Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona), where he serves as the director of the Software Engineering and Mobile Cloud Computing Lab (SoftCom Lab). He is also an adjunct professor in the Computer Science Department at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Sun has extensive research and entrepreneurial experience in software engineering, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and mobile computing.
Dr. Sun is the founder of Coding Mind, an educational and AI tech startup dedicated to promoting computer science education for K-12 students in the United States, and has successfully organized numerous computer science outreach and educational activities. Additionally, Dr. Sun is a founding faculty of the iLab, the innovation and entrepreneurship lab at Cal Poly Pomona, where he focuses on mentoring university students in tech entrepreneurship. As the chairman of K12 Ventures Foundation, a non-profit incubator, he actively promotes tech entrepreneurship education for young people.
Dr. Sun has played a crucial role in the department's outreach activities, leading programs such as IgniteCS and spearheading the Training for California Teaching Supplemental Authorization in Computer Science, significantly expanding the reach and impact of computer science education.
